Mail Cat -- Reflection

I was walking home one evening after classes, and I saw this cat sitting in a mailbox. I had passed that house hundreds of times -- this was the first (and only) time I had ever seen this cat in this mailbox. As I approached to take this picture, the cat looked at me calmly and posed.

Sometimes I get some of my best pictures when I walk familiar routes. I see this as a sort of subtle spice that flavors a normal day. Sometimes I'm expecting a boring day, but the unexpected hangs just around the corner. I have to continually keep myself vigilant for that opportunity that comes out of the monotonous.

Reflection Points: This PhotoSinryu invites us to keep our awareness open to the unexpected, even in familiar times and territories. Do we just slog about our days, waiting for weekends and vacations to give us some cinnamon and curry? Or do we look for the subtle salt and pepper in our everyday lives, the sparrow that taps on our windowsill, the child who crawls into our lap, the neighbor who leaves us a plate of cookies by our door? And how might we add a little salt and pepper to someone else's ordinary day?
